Although, we can’t run the roads this year as we might like, we can race the runways. At EvenSplits we are pleased to announce our first ever Big Flat Runway Races to be held on Sunday 4th October 2020 at Elvington Airfield, near York. Every road race distance will be on offer (5K, 10K, 10mile, half marathon and marathon) and every race will be chip-timed, officially measured and UKA licensed.

There will be no mass starts and so no gun times. Instead you will be set off in small socially distanced groups at intervals. Your result will be a chip time as currently recommended by UKA.

For those who don’t know, Elvington airfield is huge! The runway is over 3km long and there is a huge 19.8 hectares rectangular hardstanding apron for car parking. And that’s why we have chosen it, because there is more than enough open space to allow for social distancing between competitors before, during and after the race.

AI Overview

The Big Flat Runway Races Half Marathon, held annually on October 4th in York, North Yorkshire, offers a unique and generally fast running experience. While specific historical details beyond the event title and date are not provided, the "Big Flat Runway Races" name strongly suggests a course primarily situated on or around an airfield runway. This type of terrain typically translates to a very flat and potentially windy course, making it an attractive option for runners seeking personal bests. Participants can expect a straightforward, no-frills race focused on providing a smooth and efficient half marathon. The predominantly flat nature of the runway will appeal to both experienced runners aiming for speed and newer participants looking for a less technically challenging route. The open expanse of a runway also often means limited natural shelter, so runners should be prepared for potential wind exposure, which can be a significant factor in race day conditions. The event's designation as "Event Type: 1" might indicate a specific category or size of race, though further context would be needed for precise interpretation.
