About this race
Let's kick off the New Year with a little fun!
What's a Prediction Run? A prediction run requires you to predict how long it will take you to complete our 1 or 3-mile (depending on the distance you select) route. It's not about how fast you finish or even finishing first, the object of a prediction run is to finish as close to your predicted time as possible. When you register, you will provide a target finishing time for the distance you select. When you arrive, you're "race bib" will have the predicted time on it. You will have an opportunity to modify the time on event morning, if necessary.
No Gadgets! Leave your gadgets at home, please. They are not allowed on the course during the race. NOTE: If you want to still record your miles, we will have non-clear tape that will be required to cover your watch.
Will there be winners? Yes! There will be prizes for the Top 3 Winners. But for the Prediction Run, the winners are those that finish closest to his/her/their predicted time.
Prediction Run/Walk will be followed by breakfast at Fleet Feet Fox Valley (3404 W College Avenue, just 1 block north of Fuze Nutrition)
What to expect
Written from race dataThe Dirty Snowflake Prediction Run/Walk, held annually on January 1st in Appleton, Wisconsin, is a unique and festive 1-mile event designed to kick off the new year with a twist. Unlike traditional races where the fastest runner wins, this event challenges participants to accurately predict their finish time. The winner is the individual whose actual finish time is closest to their declared prediction, encouraging a more strategic and fun approach to running or walking. This fosters a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere, making it accessible to all ages and fitness levels. Participants should expect a community-focused event with a celebratory vibe. The 1-mile course typically navigates through a local park or neighborhood, offering a manageable distance for everyone. Given its January date, the terrain and conditions are highly likely to be winter-specific, meaning participants should be prepared for cold temperatures, potential snow, ice, or slush underfoot. Proper footwear and warm clothing are essential. The "Dirty Snowflake" moniker hints at the possibility of less-than-pristine conditions, adding to the race's unique charm and encouraging a good-natured embrace of whatever winter weather the day brings.
