13th Annual IceBreaker 5K Challenge 13th Annual IceBreaker Challenge 5K

The IceBreaker Challenge is a one of a kind Capital District running/walking road race challenging runners and walkers against rowers from the Albany Rowing Center. Runners/walkers will travel along the Corning Preserve Bicycle Path while rowers from the Albany Rowing Center will race alongside in shells on the Hudson River.  It is also a major fundraiser for the Albany Rowing Center, helping us to expand access to rowing and to the Hudson River for community members of all ages. Come join us for this unique and exciting event at the Albany Rowing Center Boathouse in the Corning Preserve.

NEW for 2023: All participants will receive a pair of custom IceBreaker Challenge running socks!  We are also lining up great prizes from local vendors for all age category winners and overall event winners!

Registration opens at 8:00 a.m.  Kids run starts at 9:30 a.m., and 5K starts at 10:00 a.m.  

Packet pick-up and last-chance registration will be Friday, March 24 from 4-7p.m. at The Albany Pump Station, 19 Quackenbush Square, or race day beginning at 8:00 a.m.   SOCK SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED.  SOCKS NOT GUARANTEED AT LAST-CHANCE REGISTRATION.

Parking is available at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch.  If the boat launch lot fills, parking attendants will direct you to an overflow lot.
