Big Sur Land Trust's 2023 Race for Open Space is a series of guided and self-guided activities taking place during the month of April. Over the 4-week period you can explore Big Sur Land Trust's nature preserves with a self-guided hike/run, encounter spectacular vistas on a guided hike of rarely-traveled lands, or participate in a live trail race across a network of magnificent conserved lands. You may also choose to support Big Sur Land Trust by registering as a virtual challenge participant and recording your total mileage in April. Race for Open Space self-guided, guided, and live events have different dates and times available for access. When you register, you will be asked to select a date and time for your event. A special discount is offered for self-guided access to Big Sur Land Trust nature preserves: Register for Glen Deven Ranch or Mitteldorf Preserve for $35, and add an additional course at either property for only $15. Youth 12 and under receive half-price registration.
For all Race for Open Space activities, you may change your selected date/time no less than 48 hours in advance.Â
Competitive runners and hikers can use a tracking app like Strava, Garmin, MapMyRun, or others to log each excursion. Submit your course times on our race website to aim for beating the course record for each of Big Sur Land Trust's nature preserves or for the live Adventure Courses. This is an honor system, and we trust you are truly running/walking/hiking the course(s) that you submit. Top finishers will be asked to share a screenshot of their activities to confirm their placement.
