Ellen was a wonderful Occupational Therapist, teacher, friend, inspiration, and driving force to many in the field of autism. She had a magical way with autistic individuals and their families. Ellen had served the New Mexico Autism Society’s Board of Directors as President, Treasurer, and workhorse for many years. She also helped many children, teachers, and therapists as a member of the APS Autism Resource Team. We lost Ellen to cancer in 2009, but her spirit will remain with all who knew her.
Because of Ellen and her dedication to the autism community, New Mexico Autism Society decided to honor her memory with this race. Each year, the New Mexico autism community gathers at Balloon Fiesta Park to help raise acceptance, to educate, and celebrate our autistic community and their families. The race is our biggest fundraiser of the year and helps fund all the programs and events we host.Â
This year we are again partnering with Alta Mira Specialized Family Services to bring you KiteFest! Come join us, fly a kite and celebrate because “EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE TO FLY†in our community!Â
