The Iron Horse 4 miler will raise funds to be donated to the ALS Ride for Life for their patient services at the Stony Brook Neuromuscular Disease and Christopher Pendergast ALS Center of Excellence. My family has had multi-generational familial diagnosis of the fatal disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Familial ALS accounts for 5 to 10 percent of all ALS cases. This race is honor of my mom, Sally and all those living with ALS and their families.
