What to expect

Written from race data

The Jack & Jill Downhill Marathon, Half Marathon, and Washington Marathon on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in North Bend, WA, promises a unique running experience. This event, held in its entirety on Saturday, is known for its significantly downhill course, offering runners the opportunity to achieve fast times and potentially personal bests. While specific historical details about the event's inception are not provided here, its "downhill" moniker suggests a focus on leveraging gravity for an easier, faster run. Participants can anticipate a scenic journey through the Snoqualmie Valley, with the course primarily consisting of paved roads. The primary characteristic of this race is its consistent downhill gradient, which can lead to faster mile splits but also requires runners to manage downhill fatigue and impact on their joints. The typical terrain will be smooth asphalt, making it suitable for road shoes. Notable features of the Jack & Jill Downhill Marathon include its status as a potential Boston Marathon qualifier for those aiming for that prestigious race, given its downhill nature and certified course. The event is designed for runners seeking speed and a less strenuous overall effort compared to a flat or uphill course.
