What to expect
Written from race dataThe Longest Night Marathon, scheduled for December 22, 2024, in Greenville, SC (29607), is a unique running event designed to embrace the darkness of the winter solstice. While specific historical details about this particular iteration are not provided, its name suggests a tradition of celebrating or challenging oneself during the year's longest night. Participants can anticipate an atmospheric race experience, likely focusing on camaraderie and endurance as the sun sets early. The "6" designation likely refers to a specific race distance (e.g., 6k, 6 miles) or a series of events, which would need further clarification. Runners can generally expect a course that navigates the Greenville area under potentially cool, crisp winter conditions. Terrain is likely to be a mix of paved roads and possibly some park trails, common for urban marathons. The key characteristic of this race is its timing, occurring on or around the winter solstice, meaning participants will be running in the dark for a significant portion of their race. Runners should come prepared for low-light conditions, including headlamps or reflective gear, and be ready for potentially cold temperatures. The novelty of running a marathon during the longest night of the year is the standout feature, offering a memorable and challenging experience.
