What to expect
Written from race dataThe Thirsk 10, organised by Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers, is an established and popular 10-mile road race set to take place on March 22, 2026, in the picturesque market town of Thirsk, North Yorkshire. This event is a staple in the region's running calendar, known for its excellent organisation by a dedicated local running club. Participants can expect a well-supported and professionally managed race day, making it an attractive early-season target for both seasoned club runners and recreational participants looking to challenge themselves over the 10-mile distance. The course is widely recognised as being predominantly flat and fast, winding through the scenic rural roads surrounding Thirsk. This makes it an ideal event for runners aiming for a personal best (PB) or those looking for a relatively gentle introduction to longer distances on tarmac. Given the late March date, conditions can be variable; participants should prepare for crisp, potentially chilly weather, which might include anything from bright sunshine to cooler temperatures, wind, or even light rain, typical of North Yorkshire at that time of year. Notable features of the Thirsk 10 include a strong community atmosphere, with local support cheering runners along the route. The precise and professional organisation by Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers ensures clear marshalling, accurate timing, and generally good post-race amenities. Its reputation as a fast course, coupled with its reliable organisation, positions the Thirsk 10 as a highly regarded and enjoyable race experience in the North Yorkshire running scene.
